One of the things that first drew me to a photograph is the power it holds to convey a feeling, an idea, an emotion…. A fraction of a second reveals so much and as a photographer it is my privilege to show you a glimpse of our world. I believe photography to be a powerful medium for discovery and what the photographer “discovers” can lead to our own revelations about the subject and maybe even about ourselves.
Studying anthropology has made me question something I think we all ask at some point in our lives… Why do people do what they do? I truly believe we are greatly affected by what we experience. My own travels and collisions with other cultures brought these ideas into my head at an early age. Cultural Relativism the idea that we must understand the meaning behind the behavior within in it’s own context and not judge it by our own standards. I think this simple idea can really change how we see the world and allow us to be more tolerant and respectful of each other.
What I would like to show is that even through our differences we have shared experiences and emotions …… Body Modifications are just one of the ways we seek to apply meaning our worlds. Those meanings are different for all of us but we all share that desire to control how we present ourselves. This collection will consist photographs of different forms of body modifications and a personal quote from the subject regarding their body. My hope is that people will view these images with an open mind and read the quotes with an open heart…. And maybe see a bit of themselves in the process.

You will be asked to sign a model release. Images will be released at the photographer’s discretion. There is no guarantee that your images will be selected. The hope to is get his project in a gallery or possibly make a book with them. To be honest I am not 100% of the final outcome of this project but it is one I am passionate to pursue.
